About Section – Simply Clear Pools
About Us

Real Experience.
No Gimmicks. Just Results.

Simply Clear Pools was founded on one simple belief: pool and spa ownership should be about relaxation and enjoyment — not chemistry lessons and guesswork.

16 Years in the Deep End

Our founder didn't just study pool chemistry — they lived it. Over 16 years of personally maintaining a pool and spa, every water challenge imaginable came up: chemical imbalances, cloudy water, equipment headaches, and that telltale ammonia smell that so many people wrongly chalk up to "too much chlorine." (Spoiler: that smell actually means there's not enough chlorine.)

That firsthand experience is the foundation of everything we do at Simply Clear Pools. We don't just treat symptoms — we dig deep to find the root cause, explain it in plain English, and fix it for good.

Our philosophy is straightforward: never put anything in your water that you don't understand. The pool industry loves miracle products and quick fixes. We ignore the gimmicks and stick to proven water chemistry principles that actually work.

Chloe Chlorine™ ✨
Simply Clear Mascot

Chloe; used to be a sickly green — the color of chlorine gas — before Simply Clear Pools got her water chemistry right. Now she's a gorgeous, happy shade of blue and ready to help your pool look just as good!

Why We're Different

Water Testing You Can Trust

Unlike discount stores that offer a quick dip strip, we conduct a thorough water test with fresh reagents and calibrated equipment. Not sure how to collect a sample? We'll walk you through it.

Real Experience, Real Solutions

Our founder has personally dealt with every pool challenge imaginable over 16 years of ownership. From chemical imbalances to equipment failures, we've solved it all — and we bring that know-how to every client.

Education Without Overwhelm

You shouldn't need a chemistry degree to enjoy your pool. We handle the technical details and explain everything in plain English — so you always know what's happening with your water.

Bruno Bromine™ 💨
Chloe's Smelly Brother

Bruno is Chloe's brother. His deep reddish-brown color comes from liquid bromine, and his name says it all — "bromine" comes from the Greek bromos, meaning "stench." He means well, but he's a little… pungent.

Meet Bruno — Chloe's Smelly Brother

Every family has that one relative. For Chloe Chlorine™, it's her brother Bruno Bromine™. Where Chloe is bright, bubbly, and crystal-clear blue, Bruno is a deep, rich reddish-brown — the color of liquid bromine — and, well… let's just say you'd know if he walked into a room.

The word "bromine" comes from the ancient Greek βρῶμος (bromos), meaning "stench" or "foul smell." Bruno owns it. He's not ashamed.

Bromine is often used in spas and hot tubs because it holds up better than chlorine at higher temperatures. Bruno works hard — he just doesn't smell great doing it. Fortunately, with the right chemistry, both Chloe and Bruno can do their jobs without making your pool or spa experience anything less than perfect.

🤔

Fun fact: That "chlorine smell" at the pool? It's usually not chlorine at all — it's chloramines, which form when chlorine reacts with contaminants like sweat and sunscreen. The fix is actually more chlorine, not less. Bruno knows this and finds it hilarious.

FAQ

Questions? We've Got Answers.

Straight talk about pool and spa care — no jargon, no runaround. Can't find what you're looking for? Just give us a call.

Why Us

Most pool services follow a routine checklist. We follow the water. Our founder spent 16 years personally managing a pool and spa before ever servicing a client — which means we've made the mistakes, learned from them, and know exactly what actually works versus what just sounds good on a product label.

We use fresh reagents and calibrated test equipment on every visit, and we explain what we find in plain English. No upsells, no miracle products, no guesswork — just proven water chemistry and honest advice.

Service Visits

Every visit starts with a thorough water test — not a quick dip strip, but a proper multi-point analysis covering chlorine/bromine levels, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, and more. From there we treat based on what the water actually needs, not a pre-loaded chemical schedule.

We also check your equipment for anything out of the ordinary and let you know about anything that needs attention — before it becomes a costly breakdown. After every visit you'll know exactly what was done and why.

Green Pool

Yes — a green pool is one of our specialties. The important thing is not to just dump shock in and hope for the best. Algae blooms have root causes — typically a breakdown in sanitizer levels, filtration, or both — and treating the symptom without addressing the cause means it will come right back.

Recovery time depends on how advanced the bloom is. A light green pool with good equipment running can often be cleared in 2–4 days. A dark green or near-black pool may take a week or more and multiple treatments. We'll give you a realistic timeline after assessing your specific situation.

New Owners

This is one of the most common pool myths — and it's completely backwards. That strong "chlorine smell" is actually chloramines, which form when chlorine reacts with contaminants like sweat, sunscreen, and body oils. Chloramines are a sign that your chlorine has been used up fighting those contaminants.

In other words, a pool that smells strongly of chlorine usually needs more chlorine — specifically a shock treatment to break down the chloramines and restore free available chlorine. Properly balanced water actually has very little odor at all.

Equipment

We perform thorough equipment inspections and can handle many common repairs and adjustments on the spot. If something needs a specialist — such as a major pump rebuild or heater gas work — we'll tell you exactly what's needed and help you understand your options so you're never left in the dark.

The real value of our equipment checks is catching problems early. A pump running at slightly lower pressure, a filter that's overdue for a clean, a salt cell that's starting to scale — these are easy to address when caught early and expensive when ignored.

Spa & Hot Tub

Significantly. A typical hot tub holds 300–500 gallons compared to 15,000+ for a pool. That small volume means chemistry changes happen much faster — a single soaking session can noticeably shift pH and sanitizer levels. Add in high temperatures (which accelerate chemical reactions and off-gassing) and heavy aeration from jets, and you have a much more demanding environment than a pool.

Many hot tub owners use bromine rather than chlorine because it remains effective at higher temperatures and doesn't produce the same strong odor at elevated heat. Whatever sanitizer you use, regular testing and correct dosing is essential — both for water clarity and for your health.

New Owners

For a residential pool in regular use, testing at least once a week during swim season is a good baseline. After heavy rain, a big pool party, or a period of extreme heat, test again — these events can shift your water chemistry quickly.

The key numbers to watch are free chlorine, pH, and total alkalinity. Get those right and the rest tends to stay in line. Not sure how to read your test results or what to do with them? That's exactly what our New Pool Owner Consultation is for — we'll walk through everything with you so you feel confident, not overwhelmed.

Why Us

Almost certainly not. The pool industry is full of specialty products that promise to solve specific problems — many of which wouldn't exist if the core chemistry (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness) were properly maintained in the first place.

Our philosophy is simple: never put anything in your water that you don't understand. We focus on the fundamentals that actually work, and we're not in the business of selling you chemicals. When we recommend a product, it's because your water genuinely needs it — and we'll explain exactly why.
